Small Claims Assessment Review (SCAR)
A low-cost New York process for homeowners to appeal after Grievance Day.
SCAR is a streamlined, low-fee process (currently a $30 filing fee) that lets New York homeowners appeal their assessment to a hearing officer after being denied on Grievance Day.
It’s designed for owner-occupied residential property, requires no lawyer, and the hearing is informal. It’s the practical next step for most New York homeowners who don’t get relief from the Board of Assessment Review.
