Grievance Day
The set date (mainly in New York) when homeowners can formally challenge their assessment.
Grievance Day is the statutory date — the fourth Tuesday in May for most New York towns — when the Board of Assessment Review meets to hear assessment challenges. You file Form RP-524 on or before that day.
Miss Grievance Day and you generally wait a full year, though you may still pursue a Small Claims Assessment Review (SCAR) afterward. It’s the single most important date on the New York property tax calendar.
