Pay Under Protest

Paying under protest means you pay the tax the county says you owe by the due date, but formally note that you dispute it — preserving your appeal and your right to a refund if you win, without risking penalties or a lien.

Many states require the tax be paid (or partially paid) while an appeal is pending. Following the exact protest-payment procedure protects you on both fronts: no late penalties, and a clean refund if your value is reduced.
