Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) is paid when you buy property in England and Northern Ireland. It’s frequently overpaid because the buyer’s solicitor applies standard residential rates when a relief actually applied.
Common overpayment grounds include mixed-use property, uninhabitable property (charged at lower non-residential rates), and Multiple Dwellings Relief. Claims can typically be made up to around four years after completion.
