Personal Property Tax
A tax on movable business assets (or vehicles), separate from real-estate tax.
Personal property tax applies to movable assets — business equipment, machinery, and in some states vehicles — as opposed to real property (land and buildings). Businesses often file an annual rendition listing these assets.
It’s distinct from the home assessment appeals covered here, but business owners can over-report or over-value assets. Reviewing depreciation schedules can reduce the personal property bill much like a real-estate appeal.
