Millage Rate
The property tax rate, expressed as dollars of tax per $1,000 of assessed value.
A millage rate expresses your property tax rate in “mills” — one mill is $1 of tax per $1,000 of assessed value. A 20-mill rate on a $200,000 assessment is $4,000 in tax.
You can’t appeal the millage rate (it’s set by local budgets), but you can appeal the assessed value it’s applied to. Lowering the value lowers the bill at the same rate.
