Council Tax Band
The A–H valuation band (England/Scotland) that sets how much Council Tax you pay.
In England and Scotland, every home is placed in a Council Tax band (A to H) based on its estimated value on a fixed historical date — 1 April 1991 in England. Your band determines your bill.
Many homes are in the wrong band, often because 1991 valuations were done quickly (“second-gear valuations”). If similar neighbouring homes sit in a lower band than yours, you may be over-banded and paying too much.
